If you’re like me, starting something new scares me silly. I literally go through the motions when I am about to start something new.

First step, I get a new idea. I’m literally the most excited person when I get a new idea. I’m so pumped just thinking of the ripple effects of that one idea. Then the fear starts to creep in. Doubt comes in and it usually starts out subtly but before you know what’s going on, you’re already thinking of the one thousand and one ways it could possibly go wrong or not work at all. Before you say ‘Jack Robinson’ your enthusiasm that was on a 100 before gradually comes down till you’re operating on a 20.

You begin to doubt yourself, your thoughts become the things you fear the most. You begin to question everything you possess to bring that idea to fruition and gradually, you finally arrive at the point where you dump the idea with a flimsy ‘it was never going to work‘ excuse and continue to wallow in your ‘comfort’ zone but guess what? Nothing great is ever achieved in your comfort zone.

A number of us go through these motions time and again, when are you going to get tired of your comfort zone and take that step that’ll lead to greatness? How do you intend to fulfill purpose if you won’t ever take the step into that ‘uncertain’ zone?

This post is as much for you as it is for me. I still go through these motions but guess what? I’ve decided to not settle. In fact, I feel the greater the heights destined for you to achieve, the greater the feeling of inadequacy and discouraging thoughts so here are two things that have helped me and are still helping me:

1. Prayers & Confessions

Nothing gives me peace like talking to God. Once the thoughts start to well up, I immediately arrest them and start talking to God. The Bible says in Philippians 4:6-7 “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything, by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” The place of prayer is a place of reassurance. If God will show you the heights that one step would lead you to, you would not hesitate to take the step but while you may not see the future, TRUST GOD!

Your confessions are key. More often that not, we underestimate the power of our words. The Bible says in 2 Corinthians 10:5b “…bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ.” The Message translation says “…fitting every loose thought and emotion and impulse into the structure of life shaped by Christ.” If you believe that the thoughts that God has for you are for good and not evil, and you believe that all you need to fulfill that which God has planned for you, He has equipped you with, then you’ll agree with me that you are enough. So the next time those voices come up in your head, cast them down and make confessions of faith. You are enough! You are equipped by the Lord!!

2. Quality Relationships (Helpers)

These are not the 899,732,568,912 individuals you call ‘friends’. These are those very few people God has placed in your life to be your HELPERS. They are the ones you can share dreams, goals, ideas and visions with. They propel you to greatness. They are positioned by God at different stages of your journey to encourage you when you need it, cheer you on when it seems you are slowly coming to a halt, or even scold you when you need a firm talking to. They could be your family members, age long friends, mentors, etc. Whoever they are, recognize that God has placed them in your life for a reason – to be your helpers. Don’t stray from such relationships because in times when you feel like you are down and out, when you feel like you can’t even pray, they are your support system, encouraging you and interceding for you. I have been blessed with a few and I am incredibly grateful for each and every one of them.

Truth is we all want to be great (at least I hope we all do), but it doesn’t come easy. The one thing we have as Christians that stands us out from the rest of the world and makes all the difference is GOD! He is always there for you and He has given you all that you need to succeed.

Don’t let fear and doubt keep you from taking that step today. I definitely haven’t arrived yet, as I said earlier, this post is as much for me as it is for you but let’s make up our minds today to take the step out of our comfort zones WITH GOD into that great idea that He has given you. It’s a process to bring you to the expected end He planned for you before the world began.

Remain blessed,

  1. Thank you Miss Bloomn’.
Fear is a terrible thing when we permit it to take root in our lives. In the words of Marianne Williamson:
“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine as children do. It’s not just in some of us; it is in everyone. And as we let our own lights shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”
